What Are You Listening To This Weekend?

Happy Friday!

What are you listening to this weekend?

The Aria Serious crew will be getting busy with Debussy's Pelleas et Melisande since we've never listened to this one in its entirety. After that we'll be catching up with the new Belle and Sebastian LP Write About Love among others. Forecast calls for rain this weekend. So it'll be a perfect time to stay in front of the fire, with tunes on the radio while my friends humbly school me in German board games.

Stay thirsty my friends!

I am listening (watching) the new CARMEN of the 2009 Paris Opera-Comique production which was broadcast on TV throughout Europe (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/tags-on-product/B0041HU3Z0/ref=tag_dpp_cust_edpp_sa)

It is a particularly interesting production for two reasons:

John Eliot Gardiner with the help of Adrian Noble create an "authentic Carmen" in the style that was heard at the premier of Carmen at the Opera Comique in 1875.

Also there are TWO CONNECTIONS TO SAN DIEGO in this marvelous production:

ADRIAN NOBLE was the artistic director of the OLD GLOBE last summer.

ANDREW RICHARDS who was in the SAN DIGO OPERA CHORUS and young artists program stars as Don Jose. Andrew is doing fabulously. Two weeks ago he made his LA SCALA debut AND news is he has just been booked in the first cast of a production at the MET for the 2012-13 season.
