Don't you just love it when Friday sneaks up on you? We thought it was Thursday.

What are you listening to this weekend?

We'll spend Saturday morning with Alexander Borodin's Prince Igor. Why? We've never heard it before and found a used copy for $3.99 a few months back.

Then we'll spend the rest of the weekend cheering on the Netherlands soccer/football team. And not just because they wear orange and make it work for them but because they play a clean almost scientific game of football and that's something we admire.

Clean?? I've never seen such blatant diving and drama as in that semifinal v. Uruguay.

@ST - the semi-final match was fairly clean considering who they were playing. The final was just horrible and that was not the team I've followed for 12+ years. De Jong should've been ejected. Much as it pains me to say it, the better team won. (And glad they didn't go to PK's to do it).

While we here at Aria Serious love to see our favorite art form on prime time TV, we're also concerned that this lowers the artistic standard. A few weeks ago Dr. Nic shared with us 10 interesting things about Der Rosenkavalier , born out of an agonizing ride in the elevator where we stopped on every floor from the subterranean parking garage to the 18 th floor. There is a well-known Christmas carol hidden in Méphistophélès ’ first aria, “Le veau d’or”, often called the “Golden Calf aria”. 2.
